How to be productive at work
Posted on November 20, 2017 at 11:11 am
When working, it is important to be productive and manage your time well in order to get all of your tasks complete. If an employee can show that they work hard and try and ensure work is finished on time and to a high standard then they stand a good chance of getting a pay rise or being offered a promotion, should the opportunity arise.
If you have a job that is very demanding you may often struggle to ensure that you get everything done. You need to find a way to manage your time and often the best way to do this is to have lists. You can make a list each day of tasks that need to be completed. This will give you something to focus on and anything that doesn’t get completed can be moved forward to the next day. This also means you won’t forget anything. It is a good idea to time yourself on tasks to start with to get an idea of how long they take. With this information you can also then see what is taking the longest and if there is any way you can make the process quicker to give you more free time to work on other projects.

Quitting jobs may have more of an impact than you think
Posted on October 20, 2017 at 5:08 pm
Many people at some point in their life end up in a job that they don’t enjoy. It may be that the job role has changed, the management staff have changed or simply that you do not find the job rewarding or challenging any more. Before you quit your job, there are some points to consider.
Most people who are working cannot afford to be out of work for too long, so you either need to have another job lined up that you can start almost immediately or you need to be able to save enough money to see you through a few months of not working.
Quitting jobs can not only have a financial impact but you may also jeopardise future job opportunities and may not look great on a CV. If you leave a job quite soon after you have started or have had a large number of jobs over a short space of time this may look bad to potential employers and they may not want to take a risk employing you as you may seem to be unreliable.
Before quitting a job, try and work out why you are not happy and see if there is anything you can do about it first as getting employment isn’t always as easy as it seems.

Improving your job satisfaction
Posted on September 28, 2017 at 8:11 pm
If you are currently in a job and want to improve the satisfaction you get from it, you may look at how you can improve your performance or what changes you can put forward to the company that will help you feel happier but also work better. It is easy to become complacent in any job after a certain amount of time and this can often be seen in people who do the minimum to get by in their day to day job role. Over time this may start to show and will not only look bad to your employer but can take away a lot of the satisfaction you have in a job. When analysing your performance look at items such as your time management, organisation skills and quality of your work. Write down a diary of what you do in a day and how long each task takes you. You could also star rate each task to show how much enjoyment you get out of it. If at the end of the week you see that you are spending a lot of time doing tasks you do not enjoy then you need to start to try and find ways to make the process quicker or more enjoyable. If you find that you are struggling in a particular area then you could ask your employer if it would be possibly for you to receive more training either internally or by going on a course.

Working for very little money
Posted on August 29, 2017 at 10:34 pm
Most of us have to work, unfortunately it is a fact of life as we often have mortgages to pay, children to look after and other bills such as gas and electric etc. Sadly, for many of us, we actually find ourselves worse off in work than out of it and this does not seem right. With the way the benefits system works, you can be in a situation where you get a job and actually end up with less in your pocket every month because you work. This is why it is no wonder many people chose to stay at home than have a career.
There are millions of people who earn just to much to get any help with costs but still have to pay out a fortune in child care and travel etc, so they are able to go to work. If you are a mother or father wishing to return to work after the birth of a child and are considering full time nursery care then you have to consider the fees compared to the actual earnings you will be taking home. Putting a child in nursery full time Monday to friday will cost between £800 – £1000 per month and with a monthly salary on a basic wage of not a lot more it is time to really consider your options.

Jobs in an office environment
Posted on July 28, 2017 at 12:28 pm
Office work is one of the most popular jobs in the UK especially amongst school leavers and young people as there is often a large amount of these roles available and often many of them do not require experience.
Working in an office is a good way to gain experience and see how a business is run from behind the scenes. You will often get to liaise with different departments and get to understand how the company works.
There is often a huge variety of office roles available, for example office junior, office manager, account manager, human resources roles and IT related roles all of which can vary in the day to day tasks substantially. For some people they are able to land the job of an office junior straight out of school or college. This can often allow them to quickly progress in to other more skilled roles as their confidence and experience levels increase. In order to progress up the ladder, they need to show a positive attitude, be reliable and hard working in their current role.
The salary for working in an office varies depending on who you are working for and what your job role is.

If you know what industry you want to work in it can help you narrow down your job search. If you want a job where you will mostly be based in an office then you may well be suited to a job within eh finance industry. There are a huge variety of jobs within finance meaning that you do not necessarily have to have years of experience or an accounting qualification to land a job. If you are willing to start off in a junior position, possibly taking a pay drop then you can usually work up through job roles overtime. So of the top jobs within finance offer a great rate of pay so it is worth sticking with if you are happy to work in that environment.
A GCSE in maths is usually required to work within the finance industry and if you have an A level or additional maths or accounting qualification you may find it easier to get in to a role.

Questions you may want to ask potential employees in an interview
Posted on April 10, 2017 at 7:43 am
Often as a potential employee attending an interview, it is easy to find helpful tips and advice on what you may need to ask and how you should conduct yourself during the interview, but as an interviewer you may also need some assistance and feel that you could do with some advice and pointers.
When it comes to carrying out interviews, it is all about preparation. You will probably have already read through all the CV’s and covering letters of the applicants that are going to be attending. From this I would strongly recommend highlighting any sections on their CV that you wish to discuss with them in detail. This could be something such as a gap in their employment history or extra qualifications or training they have done that you want to explore further.
Make sure that you have a set of questions in which you want to ask everyone as this will give you something to compare when you are looking through all the candidates at the end of the interview process to find out who you want to invite back for a second interview or offer the job to.

Setting up a recruitment agency
Posted on March 29, 2017 at 9:25 am
There are hundreds of recruitment agencies all over the UK, so if you are thinking of setting one up then you will need to find out what your unique selling point is going to be in order to compete with the existing agencies.
There are a number of different recruitment agencies such as ones that only offer permanent placements, some that only offer short term agency work or some that offer both. You may also find that some recruitment agencies specialise in one or two particular industries. When setting up a recruitment agency you need to decide which of these jobs you would like to offer and if you are going to limit it to jobs within particular industries or open it out to everything. You will also need to consider how you are going to charge for your services. Often if the agency is offering temp work they take a percentage from the employee, if they are sourcing people for permanent positions then the employer will pay. These fees can vary widely from one agency to another, so you will need to do your research to ensure you are competitive.

Is it ok to ask questions in an interview?
Posted on February 28, 2017 at 9:59 pm
If you have been invited to an interview for a job offer then you may have a lot of questions that the ad did not answer. It is a good idea to get these questions down on paper as and when you think of them as your mind may go blank when you are in there and struggle to remember what you needed to ask.
Although an interview is predominantly for the employer to find out about you and your skills / experience etc it is also an opportunity for you to find out about the job role and the company to see if you think it is the right job for you.
It is always a good idea to have a few questions that you want to ask as this will show you’re passionate about getting the job. Often people like to ask a little bit of background about the company if this has not already been covered in the interview.
Always wait until the end of an interview to ask questions as you may find that your question is in fact answered. Often people need to know about salaries but are a little afraid to ask. No one can be expected to take a job role without knowing what the salary is, but be prepared if they ask you what you would be expecting to receive.

Carrying out a successful interview
Posted on January 27, 2017 at 9:03 pm
If you have been given the responsibility of interviewing candidates for a position within your company then you may need to take some time to plan your interview and what needs to be asked in order to get the information you need. There are certain jobs where the candidate will need to have a particular qualification or experience and there are others where on the job training is offered so no previous experience is necessary. Regardless of what you are asking for in terms of qualifications, you also need to ascertain whether the candidate has the right personality for the job and could work well within your existing team.
Some job roles require a lot of quick decision and thinking on your feet, for example. If you have someone that has all the require experience and/or qualifications but finds it hard to make decisions then they will probably not be the right person for you.
When planning your interview be sure to put in questions to find out a bit more about the person in general and what type of work ethics they have. Also making sure that they are a team player and can work well within a group environment, if this is needed in the job role.
