Posted on September 24, 2020 at 1:04 pm
Setting up a recruitment business can be hard work. You will need to plan carefully about what areas of recruitment you want to go in to and if you are going to be offering permanent, temporary or both types of placements. Some recruitment firms specialise in teaching recruitment or manufacturing for example. There is often a lor of competition for recruitment firm so you will need to have a reason that people want to advertise their jobs through you, a unique selling point (USP).
It may be that you are able to offer much more competitive rates, or that you have thousands of skilled workers on your books. If you are just starting up you may need to offer reduced rates until you are fully established.
You will need to ensure that you have got business cards in place and that you can attend networking events on a regular basis to introduce people to your business. Marketing is essential to get any business off the ground. You should have a website and do online marketing through your website and other social media sites to attract new clientele.
Be sure that you have enough people on your books before approaching employers so that you are able to fill positions quickly if needed.

How to progress up the job ladder
Posted on August 18, 2020 at 1:47 pm
Moving onwards and upwards with your career is essential if you want to continue to push yourself and possibly earn more money. For some industries, it is easier than others to move up the ladder. Often if you can show that you are hardworking, good at what you do and trustworthy, you will start to move up very quickly. Other careers may require you to obtain other formal qualifications. For example, if you are a nurse but decide you want to be a doctor, you will need to return to university to undertake the official training required to gain the qualifications needed.
If you are happy in the job you do and with the company you work for then you may wish to try and obtain a promotion.
If the business you work for is family run, you may find that the management positions are mostly held by family members and therefore you have little chance of progressing. This is not always the case but you may find there comes a point where you cannot progress anymore and need to go to another company to be able to continue climbing up the careers ladder.
Larger organisations sometimes have set time scales where your progress will be reviewed.

Apprenticeship schemes in the building trade
Posted on July 24, 2020 at 10:22 am
There has been in recent times a vast increase in the number of new houses built in many towns and cities as the Government seek to address the problem of a housing shortage across the country and so an apprenticeship in the construction industry would guarantee the trainee extensive experience in this field.
It goes without saying that to apply for an apprentice position in this trade you must enjoy physical work that will be, at times, outdoors whatever the weather. The experiences you will gain could be anything from constructing scaffolding to plastering and anything in between. Should you have an interest in a particular area of construction such as electrical installations or plumbing it will be a good opportunity to see what the job involves whilst also picking up tips to make the job easier.
If you want to work abroad it is possible to do an apprenticeship with a company that has contracts overseas giving you the chance to travel too.
The financial rewards of working as an apprentice are not huge but should a permanent position arise in the company at a later date, you would in all likelihood stand a better chance of getting a job if you have worked for the company as an apprentice.

Using an agency to find teaching jobs
Posted on June 23, 2020 at 8:02 pm
If you are trying to secure a position as a teacher in a primary school it may be worth looking at agency work either as a stop gap until you are offered a full time post or as a way of building up your teaching experience.
There are many advantages to using an agency the foremost being that the agency source the work for you saving you the unenviable task of completing endless application forms and attending stressful interviews. When you approach the agency in your search for teaching work you will have to complete their application form and usually be interviewed initially but then the agency will carry out all the necessary safeguarding checks and will discuss with you your preferred age group to teach and when you are available for work. It is wise to be as flexible as possible about these issues as you will then be offered more work.
One of the disadvantages of working for a teaching agency is the pay as it will be less than if you worked directly for the local authority however the advantages of being able to choose when you are available for work and the minimal paperwork that you will be required to complete after a day’s teaching far outweigh this.

At the moment, it seems that a lot of people’s jobs are up in the air and not many of us feel very secure. No one knows exactly how long the current situation could last so it important that we look ahead to the long term.
If you are in a career which you feel you want to progress further in then now may be the time to start showing your worth. Many companies will be feeling the pressure of the Covid-19 pandemic and therefore any employee for goes above and beyond and shows willing is likely to be looked on favourable when this is over. It may be small things like dealing with a query when working from home which is out of your usually working hours or working longer hours or extra shifts if you are classed as a keyworker. Companies are always on the lookout for hardworking, dedicated, and loyal members of staff and if they find one, they are normally very quick to try and hold on to them.
If you want to try for a promotion at work then you should consider how you are going to approach your boss. If there is a position available often, they advertise it internally as well. If there isn’t currently a vacancy that doesn’t mean you can’t ask about one.

How to find a job that matches your skills and experience
Posted on April 17, 2020 at 3:25 pm
If you are looking for your first job after a career break or if you are looking for a change in career then you will need to firstly decide if you are willing to return to education or training or if you want to find a position that you are already qualified for. IF you want to find out more about positions that you already have the relevant qualifications and experience for then you could use one of the job search websites that have a quick quiz. It will usually ask you to list your qualifications and it will show you a number of jobs available to you. If you want something that is a little more specific then you may be better speaking to a job agency who will be able to advise you of positions that they have they may be suited to your skill set. If you are going to use an agency, it may be worth registering with more than one to give yourself the best opportunity to get a job.
Even if they do not have any current vacancies, having an idea of what you want to do can allow you to narrow down your search. You may even take temp work from them just to find out if it is something you would like to pursue.

Getting promotion in your employment
Posted on March 13, 2020 at 10:39 am
If you want to progress in your chosen career you will need to be proactive in your approach and make it clear to your employer that you are interested in any promotion that would be available to you. It is a good idea to ask for a meeting with your line manager so that you can discuss your ambitions and ask about any further training that you could undertake to make promotion more likely. If your employer is not able to offer you promotion either because a position is not available, or they are unwilling to consider you it may be necessary to seek alternative employment that offers better progression opportunities.
Some companies have mentoring programs running where a more junior employee is mentored by a more senior member of staff. This is useful as the mentor can act as an advocate in any promotion bid and can offer valuable career guidance.
If you want to be promoted, you will need to show evidence of your success in the company for instance have targets been met or surpassed or have you been able to bring additional business into the company. The idea is to impress those who will make decisions about your future progression.

Website programmers networking events
Posted on February 24, 2020 at 10:00 pm
The life of a website programmer can be quite interesting, but it can also be lonely, especially if you are self-employed and work on your own. Even if you are a programmer that works for an agency and therefore work alongside others in a office, you will spend a lot of your time with your head down programming and cannot be distracted. If you are a programmer and run your own business, then it may not only be the social side of this that causes an issue. You need to stay in touch with latest developments and have time to promote your business.
Over the last few years that’s has been a noticeable increase in networking events and groups set up specifically for the people that are involved in the online world such as web programmers, web designers and online marketeers. These are often quite informal get-togethers, where people can share ideas and possibly even make new acquaintances that they may call upon in the future as well as giving them some all-important time to socialise. If you are interested in attending one of these groups, search on some of the social media sites. If there is not a group near you then it may be an idea to contact some people in the local area who work in this industry to ask if they would be interested in attending if you started one up?

Job satisfaction is vital
Posted on December 15, 2019 at 11:56 am
Although almost all of us must work just to pay the bills, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t strive to find a job that you enjoy and that gives you satisfaction.
Being satisfied in your job will not only make your work life more enjoyable but will also make you more productive at work.
If you are in a job where you do not believe in the products or services, you are selling then this can have a detrimental effect on all. Many people that work in call centres say that they do not like the way they are trained to speak to customers such as having to be pushy or dismissive. This can make the call operative feel guilty and lead to very low job satisfaction. This can leave you feeling deflated at the end of the day and can have a massive knock on effect on your home life.
If you are in a job that gives you very little or no satisfaction, why not start to explore other avenues of jobs that you may be able to apply for, you never know, it could be the best move you have ever made.

Deciding on a recruitment agency to use
Posted on November 29, 2019 at 2:58 pm
When looking for work you may decide that you just need to find employment as quickly as possible or you may want to hold out until you find a job that you really want.
If you want to find a job quickly, do not mind what you will be doing and can get to a place of work with ease then you may want to look into temporary recruitment agencies. They will often find you work on a daily or weekly basis and although you have no guarantee of long-term work, these agencies are often successful in finding you placements quickly to allow you to start earning.
If however you have a career in mind that you want to pursue and have a level of experience or qualifications within a particular job role or industry and are looking for a more permanent placement then you need apply directly to companies by completing an application form or sending in your CV or use a recruitment agency that will put you forward for permanent positions. This may take a little longer to find work but hopefully will give you more job security.
